We recently talked about some exotic micro lots we’ve acquired this year - but that is not all! We are thrilled to announce that we have partnered with three new farms that we believe will be an excellent addition to our portfolio of exceptional Brazilian coffees!","spans":[]}],"date":"2023-03-03","body":[{"__typename":"PRISMIC_ArticleBodyText","type":"text","label":null,"primary":{"content":[{"type":"paragraph","text":"Let’s start with Sítio São José, managed by the couple Maria Martins and Paulo Izidro and one of the farms that produced one of our new exotic microlots!","spans":[]},{"type":"paragraph","text":" ","spans":[]},{"type":"paragraph","text":"The story of São José is quite heartwarming! In 2013, she tied the knot with Paulo, and together, they won an award for the farm in 2016. Following this, they took over the farm's management as a couple and set their sights on a different type of coffee agriculture that would eliminate pesticide use. Knowing that renovations would need to be gradual, they began by prohibiting glyphosate usage. Sítio São Jose has achieved a 50% organic fertilizer use rate and has also begun planting trees that introduce various micro-biodiversity to the soil, making it more robust and healthier. This farm is under new management since 2019, by the hands of Alessandra Lopes and Elinton Silvério. Mangaratiba is based in the city of Caconde in the State of São Paulo.","spans":[]},{"type":"paragraph","text":" ","spans":[]},{"type":"paragraph","text":"The couple’s commitment to the environment is what sets them apart. Since 2019 they’ve managed to be certified by UTZ, Rainforest Alliance, amongst others. We love that they use a solid waste management plant based in the farm to reduce wastes to a maximum, while using natural fertilizers made inside the farm to grow coffee in a more sustainable way! We are also very happy with the fact that all workers and their families are living inside the farm. Also from Caconde, Santa Cruz is led by Francisco Fonseca Figueiredo (AKA Chiquinho Viana), he is a lifelong coffee farmer and has grown up amidst coffee trees.","spans":[]},{"type":"paragraph","text":" ","spans":[]},{"type":"paragraph","text":"Santa Cruz is a family-led, with Chiquinho and his three sons managing the farm. Chiquinho is primarily focused on nursery and seedling management, while Denis oversees the crops, Denilson is responsible for maintenance, and Wagner manages the finances.
